This was a great day! For the first time during our entire trip, we were able to ride without rain. It was sunny and 79 degrees with 5 mile per hour winds. This is what you call bikers heaven, especially when riding through the last leg of the Natchez Trace Parkway with the fragrance of blossoming honeysuckle and seeing beautiful greenery surrounding us. We completed our 444 mile ride through the parkway and were quite shocked by the damage that we saw to the trees and grounds along the way. We knew that yesterday’s thunderstorms were strong however; we never imagined the amount of damage caused by the storms. We felt very blessed not to have been affected by the storm damage because it could have been very dangerous.
It was also a great day for the riders including Joe DeLamielleure who only lost his wallet two times. Eljay Bowron didn’t have as many hills to ride today, and Dick Comar was able to ride sixteen miles which gave him some great exercise. I am excited every day that we are getting closer to our final destination with everyone safe and having a great time. Our riders have been well disciplined to only focus on “one day at a time” and complete each segment of the ride. We are now realizing that we are in the third quarter and need to maintain our focus and keep pushing 100% all the way to Mexico.
We are staying in Vidalia Louisiana this evening at the Comfort Suites Riverfront just across the bridge from Natchez Mississippi. Mr. Virgil Jackson, the owner, gave us special accommodations and spent forty five minutes telling us about the history of Natchez. It was truly a pleasure to talk with him and stay at the Comfort Suites
We will begin our bike ride from Natchez Mississippi in the morning on our way to Baton Rouge Louisiana. We expect to have good weather and a great day of riding. I will keep you posted on our progress. Many people have been requesting to see some pictures. Therefore, I am providing the following pictures that highlight various aspects of the ride. I hope to share some flip video clips with you in the near future once we get the details worked out. We appreciate your support and look forward to Day # 11.
